Professional Grease Trap Pumping for Huntsville Restaurants & Commercial Kitchens

Running a commercial kitchen in Huntsville, Madison, or Decatur demands more than just great food; it requires a plumbing system that works as hard as you do. One of the most critical components of your kitchen’s infrastructure is the grease trap.

At Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Huntsville, we specialize in comprehensive grease trap pumping and maintenance for restaurants, cafeterias, hotels, and food processing facilities. We understand that a backed-up grease trap isn’t just a plumbing issue—it’s a threat to your revenue, your health code compliance, and your reputation.

Why Regular Grease Trap Maintenance is Non-Negotiable

Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) are the natural byproducts of commercial cooking. Without a properly maintained grease interceptor, these substances harden inside your pipes, acting like cholesterol in an artery.

Neglecting your grease trap can lead to:

  • Catastrophic Backups: FOG buildup forces sewage back up into your floor drains and sinks, shutting down your kitchen instantly.

  • Foul Odors: Rotting organic waste inside a full trap releases noxious gases (hydrogen sulfide) that can drive customers away.

  • Compliance Fines: The City of Huntsville’s Water Pollution Control enforces strict FOG regulations. Failure to maintain your trap can result in heavy fines or even utility service suspension.

  • Corrosion: As grease breaks down, it creates acids that eat away at the concrete and metal of your tank, leading to expensive replacement costs.

The "One-Quarter Rule": When Should You Pump?

How often do you need service? It depends on your volume, but the industry standard is the One-Quarter Rule.

Your grease trap needs to be pumped when 25% of the tank’s total liquid depth is occupied by floating grease and settled solids. Once it exceeds 25%, the trap is no longer effective, and grease will begin escaping directly into the city sewer lines, putting you at risk of a violation.

For most busy restaurants in North Alabama, this means scheduling service every 1 to 3 months.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is the difference between a grease trap and a grease interceptor? A: Generally, a grease trap is a smaller unit (often 10–50 gallons) located indoors, usually under a sink. A grease interceptor is a large tank (often 1,000+ gallons) buried underground outside the building. We service both.

Q: Can I use enzymes instead of pumping? A: No. While enzymes can help break down some buildup, they do not remove the non-organic solids and sludge that accumulate at the bottom of the tank. Physical pumping is the only way to ensure compliance and prevent backups.

Q: Do you offer emergency grease trap service? A: Yes! If your trap is overflowing or causing a backup, call us immediately. We offer 24/7 emergency commercial plumbing services.

Had a clogged toilet that I plunged the heck out of without any luck. Called Mr Rooter on a Sunday, said they could come out and give me an estimate for free, and they were at my door in about an hour. They quoted me a price that was $200 less than another company quoted me over the phone just to come out and take a look. They warned me what might need to be done if the auger didn’t work so I felt like I was prepared for the next step, just in case. Then thankfully they augured my toilet and it was fixed up right quick. And they said they had a one month warranty on their work so if it clogs again in the next month they would come back out and fix it again for free. The technician was friendly. If I need another plumber, I would happily call Mr Rooter again.

I was having issues with toilet. Went online to schedule an appointment and had a person onsite that afternoon. Eric diagnosed the problem and offered solution to repair or replace. Decided to replace two toilets since was having an issue with a second one as well. He left to pick up necessary hardware and returned promptly. Problem was fixed same day. Eric was informative and responsive.

We share a side sewer with our neighbor who was having some back-up issues. It turns out both lines had heavy tree root intrusion issues. We were able to schedule with Mr. Rooter quickly and easily to come out to scope our lines and give us recommendations and an estimate. Brandonn H arrived to our residences on time and he was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable as we had many questions. He provided us with a very detailed estimate, and even gave us a couple of options to select from. Once we decided to go with Mr. Rooter for this work, we were able to schedule the very next week which was great news. Brandonn kept us notified every step of the way via text and/or email and we were able to ask follow-up questions very easily. There were (2) different crews out for the 2-days of work, but all were very professional and able to inform us of the work being done and what to expect. The work was done in a reasonable amount of time, and the inspection was approved without issue. One of our fence post caps was damaged during the work, but we were informed right away both by the work crew and by Brandonn via text. Brandonn later came out to replace the cap, and we're very happy with the overall process, the work, and our decision to go with Mr. Rooter. Highly recommend.
